There are totally a lot of "kids say the darndest things" moments in my line of work, but this is, by far, one of the funniest. The following is an example of an unfocused chain, a narrative structural form produced by typically developing preschoolers, from Hedberg and Westby (1993). It's told by a 4 year old boy, and it cracks me up every single time I read it. Here it goes:

1. One day some people saw a dog gonna eat a baby

2. And the dog liked their baby.

3. One of them came and kicked the dog out and took the baby away and then bring the baby to the mother.

4. And she hided it inside of her.

5. Then she made a baby.

6. Then they had some kids.

7. They were all from her kid.

8. So they wanted to buy a gift

9. And they never wanted to.

10. So they wanted to go the kid's store.

11. Then the wolf came and said, "Ha ha ha ha.

12. Let me have my dumb baby."

13. Then took one of them and all the stuff from the other baby, too.

14. And they moved all the other one kid.

15. They said, "I want a kid, too."

16. The others started a kid.

17. They walked right to the store.

18. And they had two kids.

I think my favorite line is, "The others started a kid." Maybe not the most obvious choice, but so, so good.

Well, I was definitely doing that for the first 20 minutes of King of Kong, after which, I lapsed into an awed silence. Seriously, I cried at one point.

Now, I have searched high and low for a video clip of this, but I could not find one, so everyone will just have to take my word for it.

When I was in high school, I absolutely loved watching Talk Soup with John Henson. I didn't really watch when Greg Kinnear was on, and I loved Hal Sparks and continue to enjoy Joel McHale (sp?) when I see his episodes, but John Henson was absolutely hilari-awesome. So much so, that I drew a picture of him, Tom, and that weird sock puppet and sent it to them while Mr. Henson was on the show (I think it also included a rendering of the famous "Can of pig brains-eating" incident). I don't know why I did it; I guess I thought they might find it endearing. In truth, it was a kind of lame pencil drawing, but it was the kind of thing that I would have loved if I were John Henson (maybe). BUT! Months later, I happened to be watching when they did a "salute" to fans and fan art, and...THEY. FEATURED. IT. BY. PUTTING. IT. UP. ON. THE. SCREEN. FOR. LIKE. AT. LEAST. 10. SECONDS.

THIS WAS MY PROUDEST MOMENT.

It's really cool that you're running that caption at the bottom of the screen to catch me up since the season finale originally aired A BILLION EFFING YEARS AGO but maybe you could cut out all the flowery, quasi-mystical editorializing? I really don't care that "Jack really did a number on Ben" or that "There's no better way to bond on this island than to tie up Ben" or whatever, I'm paraphrasing, but you get the point.

Also, Lost should be on cable because the most unrealistic element of the entire show is that no one has ever said the f-word. I'd be painting an effing blue streak on that island with f-bomb. I'd be all "What the H-E-double croquet mallets is going on here all the time?" and whatnot.

It's interesting to see (SPOILER ALERT) a show build enough genuine tension in a slow, somewhat studied (albeit at times heavy-handed) way that when a major plot twist occurs, e.g., the potential firing of one of the show's key (and most loathsome) players, the viewer is seriously shocked and bummed. Every episode of Mad Men truly is like a mini-movie. Nice job, AMC.
